TOP 5 PUREE RECIPES FOR YOUR BABY

PUMPKIN PUREE

Which kind of pumpkin should I buy?

You should look for a smaller, immature pumpkin. They are labeled as “sugar pumpkin” or “pie pumpkin”. The smaller, sugar/pie pumpkins provide the most flavourful additions to any baked dish or baked good and are great as a soup. 

HOW TO MAKE MY HOMEMADE PUMPKIN PUREE FOR MY BABY

Ingredients:

  • 1 sugar/pie pumpkin
  • water

Pumpkin is best when baked though you may peel, cube and steam it. Bake a pumpkin exactly as you would bake a winter (Acorn, Butternut etc.) squash. Pumpkin is after all a squash.

Directions:

Step 1: Halve the pumpkin, de-seed;

Step 2: Place halves face down in a baking pan with approx. 1-2 inches of water;

Step 3: Bake between 190-218 C for approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour;

Skin should be “puckery” and/or wrinkled and pumpkin should feel soft when pressed;

Step 4: Scrape out the pumpkin “meat” and then mash or puree as needed for your baby.


 

EASY AVOCADO PUREE

 

Avo is a great option as first food for babies because it isn’t very likely to be allergenic and has lots of healthy fats that’s awesome for your baby. Also there is no cooking involved and you do either a fork or a blender.

To make avocado puree for your little one, you just need ripe avo and a fresh lemon!

Pick an avocado that is firm to the touch and a little bit give.

Ingredients:

  • Ripe avocado;
  • Fresh lemon.

Directions:

Step 1: Halve an avocado, remove the pit and remove out the flesh;

Step 2: Mash with a fork to reach the desired consistency, thinning with water, as desired;

Step 3: Squeeze a few drops of fresh lemon juice over top, if you would like to store the puree in the fridge/freezer.

 

VEGGIE AND CHICKEN PUREE

 

This is the perfect recipe to introduce chicken to weaning baby. Why chicken? Because it is an excellent choice to be the first meat your baby will experience as it is rich in vitamins and protein.

Ingredients:
300ml low salt vegetable stock
1 chopped onion
1 chopped carrot
2 chopped celery stalks
1 skinless chicken breast

Directions:

Step 1. Over a medium heat, place a large saucepan. Add the stock and veggies. Bring to the boil.

Step 2. Add the chicken breast and boil for 15-20 minutes, until cooked through.

Step 3. Blend the veggies and chicken to the desired consistency.

Step 4. Store portions for use later and freeze as well for use in the future.

 

 

YUMMY FISH AND VEGGIE PUREE

Ingredients:

1 fillet of any white fish (unbreaded);

1/8 cup of whole milk;

1 tbsp melted butter;

1/2 tsp salt, if you want;

1/8 cup of mashed sweet peas;

1/8 cup of mashed carrots;

1/8 cup of mashed sweet potatoes.

 

Directions:

Step 1: In a medium saucepan, bring 2 inches of water to a boil over medium heat. Place the fish into a steamer basket and steam for 15 minutes, covered. Let cool slightly.

Step 2: Combine all ingredients and blend until creamy.

 

TOFU AND FRUIT PUREE

 

Tofu is a soybean curd that is a great source of protein, calcium and iron. As it is a soy product, make sure your baby is not allergic to Tofu. If you don’t know, ask your doctor for guidance.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Package of Firm or Extra Firm Tofu;
  • Fruits (banana or apple or strawberries or blueberries or pears);

Directions:

Step 1: Cut tofu and blend it up with a banana or any type of fruit(s) like apples, strawberries, blueberries or pears;

 

VEGAN PUREE FOR BABIES 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Package of Firm or Extra Firm Tofu;
  • Vegan Cream cheese.

 

Directions:

Step 1: Cut tofu into small sized cubes;

Step 2: Blend tofu with vegan cream cheese.
